There is a wider range of mobile data for banking apps to leverage than previously contemplated.
Some of the mobile-focused application builders see a wide array of mobile data streams available to banking apps — and that means, fintech providers are largely limited by their imaginations, rather than technical impediments.
Last week, I wrote about the mobile data available to fintech providers. There is more. In an interesting exchange with Brent Griffith, the founder of LoungeBuddy, a mobile app for finding airport lounges, it was clear that the data available to mobile bankers is far wider than previously contemplated.
Among the additional data streams are:
- Location;
- Time;
- Ambient audio monitoring;
- Communication patterns, such as texting v. email;
- and many more
The key is going to be “combining these things in unique ways to … make future mobile apps” that are “substantially more personalized and immersive,” Griffith said.
“The holy grail will be the combination of high-quality data and a killer intuitive user experience that fully leverages the opportunity that this data provides,” he added.
And that’s really the thing. Citibank introduced its new mobile app the other day, but it fails to leverage any other mobile data, other than location in the most obvious way (ATM location search). There are so many opportunities for creative mobile applications — Citi, and all of us, can do better.
