You may see your banker as infrequently as you see a decent Wayans Brothers movie thanks to Sprint’s MyMobileMoney manager mobile banking application. Customers of BB&T, Citibank, IBC Bank, and PNC Bank can now perform daily banking functions from their mobile phones, such as checking account balances, paying bills, and finding branches and ATMs. The application also features a mobile version of PayPal so users are able to receive and transfer money anytime, anywhere.

Sprint is considering adding other mobile banking functions such as stored values, international remittances, NFC/contactless payments, coupons and other mobile wallet functions.

It still seems as though the rate of product unveilings is far outpacing the rate of customer adoption. Didn’t customers embrace ATMs immediately? Why are they so skeptical of banking on their cell phones?

I’ll be really impressed when I can watch Marlon’s Oscar acceptance speech on my mobile phone; maybe Sprint is saving that for next year.
