Aha, I gotcha now, JJ. And Frank, the lip service factor is a very interesting thought as well. Seems many companies are guilty of that and need a realignment. For sure there are both marketing and introspective possibilities. I hope that both will…

Who's Going to Protect Us from the Government?

I need to know if I have my facts straight, if I’m reading all this correctly. I believe that there is legislation on the Congressional table, which, if both are passed, would create a government bank that would start out at $10 billion in funds, and would raise red flags on private banks that held the same amount or more, possibly forcing them to downsize.

The government bank would benefit the Clean Energy Deployment Administration. According to… Continue

BofA Breaking the Law?

A blog by Liz Weston confronts this question.

"[Odysseas Papadimitriou] calls Bank of America’s actions a marketing bait and switch, and says if the bank proceeds with its plan to implement annual fees it will in effect be raising the costs on existing balances–something that’s prohibited under the credit card reform act now scheduled to go into effect next year."

Evidently, BofA promised to stop raising interest rates, and in the same breath… Continue

7-Eleven: A Hypocritical Petition Drive?

Despite the fact that 7-Eleven charges retail prices to make profit and stay in business, it is attacking credit card companies for doing the same.

Is there a difference bet… Continue

Improve customer service and detection with auto alerting Automated alerting of transactions, for example using SMS or auto dialing, enables the bank to contact customers when a transaction occurs that meets their pre-set parameters; such as then it is over a certain amount or outside their usual spending habits.

The customer receives an alert about the transaction which gives them the opportunity to immedi… Continue

Thanks so much, Jada (even if you disagreed with me :) ). Really, the post touches on an important dynamic, and that is the relationship between the government and banks. I see that relationship becoming more confrontational in the coming months as the Obama administration pushes its regulatory reform and as the G20 advocates for higher capital reserves. It's going to be interesting to watch, that's for certain!
