I've been tracking the global evolution of Diginomics (digital economics) since the early '70s, and coined the word itself in 1998. Though I am new to this particular group, from what I can see here, you have a gold mine of information into that evolution. And, I'm wondering, the current status of global economies being what it is right now, what are the possibilities of major nations doing what only a few are already doing ... considering switching to a more fluid digital economic system altogether, abandoning the cost and sluggishness of tangible currencies? From Bitcoin to m-banking, diginomics seems to be the trend of the future. Any thoughts?

We've just pasted the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti and I thought I would offer this statistic related to banking in Haiti. As of 2009, less than 10% of Haitians had ever used a commercial bank. That compares to the fact that 84% of adults in the US use some type of regulated banking service, according to NPR.

Perhaps a good topic for debate would be: If the French try to impose the "French Economic Model" on London - will the UK leave the EU?

Please note that this group was changed to the Global Banking group from European Banking on Dec. 3, 2009, in order to encompass a wider range of ideas and information exchange.

Depends which prison, but Kerviel isn't in prison at this time and I'm sure he's very competent technically with computers, etc. In any event, a similar situation (with much more grave consequences, the bank went out of business) occurred at Barings in London a few years ago. I believe that trader is still in prison. He fled the country after ruining the bank because he was guilty of a crime, whereas the criminality of Kerviel's deeds remains hotly debated, and Kerviel has never tried to evade the authorities. If the court finds he commited a punishable crime, then his superiors could likely be drawn into the courtroom as well.

Peter, so perhaps you should make a French Banking group!

This is a good source for me to keep current, but other than France I have no other special interest in European Banking, but one never knows.
