Just like here-today, gone-tomorrow fashion trends, technology preferences can be just as fickle. So sorry iPhone, Android is trumping you in the smartphone-that-consumers-want-to-buy contest — at least for the moment.
Indeed, 31% of consumers who plan to get a new smartphone marked Android as their preferred OS, according to The Nielsen Company’s latest survey of U.S. mobile consumers polled from January 2011 to March 2011. The same data showed that 30% of consumers wanted to buy Apple’s iOS, while 11% would seek out the Rim Blackberry.
The results mark a major difference from Nielsen’s July to September 2010 survey, which showed that 26% of respondents desired an Android, which took a backseat to the 33% of respondents who wanted an Apple iPhone. My oh my, how preferences change quickly.
